UV Mapping Question

Post by hobby184 »

I recently mapped a vehicle in GTA 5 that didn't have it's own template, it worked perfectly, however now I'm trying to understand what the best way to duplicate this UV mapping is?

Vehicles in GTA 5 have a normal .yft and a _hi.yft, is there an easy way to duplicate the UV map template I created for the normal .yft so I don't have to go through all the trouble of creating it from scratch for the _hi.yft?

I've already tried exporting the template and uploading it to the _hi.yft's material browser, but of course that car is not templated so the template/livery does not apply correctly.

If you have a different geometry object in a _hi.yft file, then this geometry object have to be UV-mapped too.

There is no way to copy UV mapping from one object to another unless objects topology is identical (literally, the same object but different UV mapping).

If this is your case (same geometry object, but different uv mapping data), you can use "Copy UV" tool. Mind, the object is supposed to be identical. In particular, a clone of one another with the same vertices count and triangles count.

If you are using a 3D modeling software like 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender, you can simply duplicate the existing UV layout for the mapped vehicle. This ensures that the new vehicle will have the exact same UV island distribution and density.drift hunters

I think you should attach an image so we can understand in more detail the problem you are facing.
