Missing Textures

Hi all, I'm new to modding and I've gotten hold of the basic edits- stretching, lowering, adding nodes etc but I've hit a stumbling block with textures. I create a new material, embed a texture into it, apply it to a part on the truck, it looks okay in Zmodeler3 but it makes the entire interior turn pink in game- when imported back into Zmodeler3 my texture is missing and the part just shows a checkered plain surface. The only way to revert back that I've found is to replace the truck.pmd with a backup. What am I doing wrong?

when modding the game files, the exported file have to be equipped with correct links to material files, and each material file should point to proper texture files location. This includes relative paths (folders) in game structure.
