ZModeler 3.0.7 Release notes

Postby Oleg » Fri Dec 20, 2013 5:56 am

Release notes for ZModeler 3.0.7.

ZModeler3 is available for download on the main site or can be upgraded fully via embedded autoupdate. Downloading an entire package is strongly recommended, so you get a properly-configured version at once. Since release of ETS2 patch 1.8.x an incomplete upgrade of ZModeler to 3.0.7 was already published, this official release is equipped with additional updates that you might missed during pre-release. As always, you can keep your own configuration (ZModeler3_profile.xml) file to backup your preferred settings when downloading and installing a version from the site.

Collada .DAE import/export
The filter for importing and exporting Collada .DAE files is now available in ZModeler. It is compatible with specification 1.4.1 but omits some of features like embedded animation data, splines, lights and physics scene data. The geometry import/export routines are quite robust and can handle variety of setups and configurations one might find in DAE files. This includes both, rigged and non-rigged geometry, multiple UV channels, per-vertex colors, polygons with holes and so on. A set of configuration options will help you import/export your scenes the way you need, since there are no well-defined rules on scene setup for Collada. To the moment, exports from 3dsMax, Maya and SketchUp were tested. Exports from ZModeler were not tested in mentioned apps.

Biovision .BVH animation import/export
An additional animation filter for loading/saving Biovision .BVH animation files is also included. In a coupling with DAE filter these could let you create your assets for Second Life.

Additional improvements and bugfixes.
The upgrade involved some internal changes, so a lot of affected modules got indirect version update. However, some modules include extra features and improvements and listed below:
  • Chamfer tool fixed when options are configured after application or when tool crash was caused
  • Extrude tool fixed when causing undo to stuck or initiating unintended undo of some operations you've made after using extrusion tool.
  • UV-Remapper tool (found in menu Edit\Surface) was remastered for ZModeler3 and is now available. For example, it can be used to remap multiple SketchUp materials onto single texture atlas.
  • Animation tracks editor allows to clear range of keys from the very beginning. Also, scene animation is now handled properly, when track defines rotation keys only. So, human-like rigged models can be animated with joint rotation angles only.
  • Animation Load/Save dialog has an options control window, so animation filter options can be adjusted if needed.
  • Toolbar drop-down menu bugfix: should work in any scenario when drop-down button is clicked.
  • Flat-shaded viewport mode bugfix: will render models with right-hand local axes correctly (previously model appeared completely black). This mode behavior respects your configuration option for "Flip visible side of RH-objects" that you can toggle to force automatic flipping of right-handed models. Also, when automatic flipping is used, a property "Internal Faces flip" (found in mesh properties window under "Render Technique" branch) is not available, since manual and automatic faces flipping are mutually exclusive.
  • "Out of memory" issue was addressed, when working with a very heavy scenes. Saving or loading .z3d files is now transparently involves page-file usage and does not require extra memory for compression/decompression routines. If you have previously toggled .z3d files compression off, you are safe to enable it again. Be advice, saving a scene does not involve an extra memory usage, but the application itself can still run out of memory when working on a heavy scene for a long time, since certain routines (like keeping undo for your operations) consumes memory quite well. Reducing undo level in configuration can help in such a case.

Direct Download link.
Download ZModeler 3.0.7 (8.2Mb)

Requirements.
ZModeler3 requires additional Microsoft redistributive libraries to be installed prior running ZModeler3 on your system. Download vcredist_x86.exe package from Microsoft website. Note, since ZModeler is 32-bit application, you need a 32-bit x86 version of these libraries only.

Also, it's strongly recommended to install DirectX9c June 2010 Redistributive package: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=8109

I updated my Z3 and now Extrude too no longer works. Do I need to un-install and re-download Z3?

what do you mean by "no longer work" ? does "Extrude" appear in undo browser window once you apply extrusion tool?

If you see "Extrude" in undo browser window, then the tool has acted, even thought it's result might get messed. Let me know whether tool "acted" or not. Also, try a new scene and create primitive - try extrude on it first.

The Extrude tool is there. I did try a new scene, created a cylinder, vertices mode, selected the end, clicked on extrude and tried to drag it out, nothing, it didn’t create a new set of vertices. Nothing in the Undo browser for Extrude tool.

I’ll try re-downloading the whole app later and see if that helps.

I have the same problem. Tried the update first and the extrude tool does nothing. Tried the direct download and get the same result. If however I change from vertex level to edge level then extrude works :o

Extrude never worked on vertices level. It needs either edges or polygons.

Send me details in PM.
I've tried both to update 3.0.6 via autoupdater and running the downloaded version in another folder. both works fine. upgrading requires license application of cause, so when you upgrade, install your license key and validate it; then restart.

Hum, Its always worked in vertices mode in both Zmodeler 2 & Zmodeler 3, I've never used it any other way. I'll try edges mode.

After a few hours waiting it works, so problem solved.

Thanks anyway.

As it is pantomime season. Oh yes it did :D

I have always used it in vertex mode as well. Never used it in edge mode before.

My bad, extrude did worked on vertices level even thought it used the "extrude edges" logic in such a scenario. This behavior was restored, so you can extrude vertices again.

8 vertices extruding, 7 extruded vertices scaling, 6 vertices undoing, IT........ all........works Fine!!! LOL! yes, I'm stupid.

Thanks Oleg, I'm back in happy extruding & undoing vertices mode.

what marks are in a question? or what do you mean by "can't mark anything"? 3.0.7 did not involve any changes related to workflow. Only additional features were introduced with no harm to available tools set. May be you mean the automatic selection rect? you can toggle it on/off by pressing "Auto" button in the bottom of the screen.

Sorry to say I still get a problem with undo. It does not seem to be a problem with extrude either as today I was only uv-mapping, and when I went to undo something I had done wrong while detaching it would not undo

Luckily I had made a save just before the detach, so I was able to open the file at the point before detach where on testing undo worked again :? but 10 minutes later stopped again

When you see undo stop responding, open undo browser window and take a screenshot of the topmost entries there. Also, have you used "Detach" in uv mapper when it had happened?

Oleg,

I don't think it's related to any specific tool as it’s stopped working on me using move tool, extrude tool, scale tool, ext ext. It’s more of a timed-out or after you’ve done a certain amount of changes. For me after I opened up a file and start working on it, it seems to be around the 10 to 15 changes then the Undo no longer works. It will work before those 10 to 15 changes, but not after.

Another note: I have my Undo set to 50 (ridicules, I know) and had it this way in Z2 with no issues.

Hope this helps

I will see if I can post a screenshot later. To answer your question no I had not used "Detach" in the uv mapper.

I think you could right. Last night I used everything. Move, Extrude, Scale you name the tool and I used it and after a set amount of time undo stopped working. Once it stops working all you have to do is save your work and then open it again and undo then works again, until a set amount of time where it stops again. What the set time is I do not know as of course you do not realize it has stopped working until you need it.

Just in case I do not get time later. Merry Christmas to all Zmod users.

What operation do you get this error on? Do you get it on Save? Do you have a saved .z3d file that can easily generate this problem, so I can take a look? Also, what is the "Total memory usage" of ZModeler3.exe process in Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc -> Processes -> ZModeler3.exe) when you load your scene?

My z3d/bak and autosave/bak was broken coz of out of memory.
But i was lucky that i have send a version to one of my friends.
When i open my z3d it use 24-26% of my cpu.

the question was about "memory usage" column in task manager. you can customize columns to show and the one with memory usage (I don't know its name in English windows version) will tell the memory usage of zmodeler3.exe process.

On the other side of the issue, what is the size of .z3d file you are trying to open?

My copy of Zmodeler 3 went through an auto update last night and after I restarted the program something went wrong and immidiately it crashed. As it was very late I did nothing but now I can't use Zmod anymore. The program has become very "sluggish" og lagging, I have to wait around 30 seconds between actions now, meaning that when I move the mouse over one of the command buttons fx, I have to wait 30 seconds before I can click the button. I have already tried reinstalling with a full version download, but it has not helped my problem.

The size of the z3d file is 21.322KB.
When I load the file my file Zmodeler is using 52-59% cpu power and 317.668KB of memory

edit: I have just tried loading another file of 4000KB in size. This time no problems yet. I guess that zmodeler is requirering more ressources from the system after this update. Is there any way to revert to 3.0.7 before build 1041?

Is my pc simply not powerfull enough after the latest update? version 3.0.7 has been working flawlessly on my system before being updated to build 1041.

There were no updates related to rendering performance for ages. When you've downloaded a fresh version from the site, have you made correct settings for your rendering device at first run? You can check them on Settings...\Rendering page. Preferred settings are "Hardware@your_video_vendor" with/without antialiasing (set to 4 samples) and automatic caching.

All the updates I've made are mentioned in the very first post of this topic. The only technically related update is on opening of .z3d files, it let ZM use a slightly different loading method to reduce memory usage during open/save operations.

In general, you can download and install any zmodeler version (you can have multiple versions installed and activated in different folders, no problem on this) and you can compare performance of older version. If needed, here's the 3.0.6, so you can compare performance.
