Fixing normals along seam

Postby hat1324 » Mon Mar 12, 2018 8:22 pm

Hey guys, another question regarding a ped mod. It looks like at some point I used the Calculate Normals on one of my meshes and now the normal mapping has hard edges along the seams. Is there any way to smooth this out without reimporting the mesh?

surface\normals\smooth (on selected vertices).

I have tried using this tool before to no effect. Not sure if my settings are wrong but I've fiddled with the normal smoothing a lot now and it does very little.

may be points are moved away a little, so ZM don't consider them as sharing location and excludes from smoothing? try moving some vertices on a seam with snapping to vertices toggled on; then smooth again. according to your screenshot, normals angle should be set to something like 50.

I have snapped the vertices onto each other just to make sure, and tried again. Still no discernible effect.
My smoothing settings are 100% 50% and 50, if that's any help

smoothing will work withing just one object. it will not smooth across different objects.

I know that. This is with regards to the vertical seam

so you move vertices with snapping+snap to vertices toggled on, see them snapping one to another, correct? then you select all vertices (or at least vertices on a seam on both sides) and use Normals Smooth, click, set any ... and nothing happens?

That is correct.

I've been having a similar issue. But, its with the weld tool in multiple mode. Even when the settings are set to a great distance apart they aren't combining. I have to do a quadr to select the set separately.
