Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
Hello,
I use the dinosaur Zmodeler 1.06 as it is the only version that sucessfully worked for me for modyfying .dff models for GTA Vice City.
And I struggle to select some parts of the models that are not the main chassis of a car ( Bumper, bonnet ect.. ) Sometimes it works but it seems random and I do not know how I suceeded.
Thing is Zmodeler1 is so old that none video tutorials exists for it, as Youtube came out later and everyone made videos about Zmodeler2 instead of the 1rst !
Only documentation I ever found is this :
https://www.etspe.ca/zmt/v1/tex.html
https://www3.uji.es/~martiv/tutorials/b ... 0elements.
But it does not cover up everything, only basic info for direction. Other tutorials do exists in GTAforums but all illustration pictures vanished so we can't have visual indication, only text...
Dear Oleg, do you remember how this ancestor works ? Thanks !

Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06

Hello,
What I aim to do is select faces of the red element, but all I can do is doing so with the main blue element, and triggering the face selection of the red element is very unconsistent.
What I experienced with Zmodeler2 is that textutres are maped in the wrong area of the car for some reason, doing bad resulsts ingame. However in Z1, it's also misplaced but at least still located on the right areas ( I do not have interior texture on the body like in Z2 ! ) and the results in game remains correct. This is why I stick with Z1.
I tried Z3, 3DSmax 2007 and 2010 and got either crashes or error for the exports... I would have love to use Z2 as it looks so responsive and very intuitive but these textures problems smashed the hope of ever using it.

I can't be of much help on ZModeler1 as this is an outdated product.
You can hide objects that block access to other geometry. You can select and hide polygons that block access to other polygons.

Yes of course I have indeed noticed that, but this doesn't help at all, even with the isolated part with nothing else it just don't want to select the faces.
The only thing I managed to do is to map textures from this red model on the main blue model then done a " Select by material " and I eventually have been able to select faces for this thing but after this I can't unselect the faces frome the main model anymore so it would result of applying texture on unentended parts.

Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
I afraid I do not understand what exactly are you doing and what exactly goes wrong.
Is the red part on the hood a separate object that you can show/hide or is it a part of another object?
When you switch to polygons level, ZModeler will switch either active (blue) object, or a selected (red) object (when "SEL button is pressed).

Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
Yes indeed it is a standalone element like a bumper or a door that I can hide independently from the rest.
In that case, this would not work at all, it's just unresponsive unless if I have a texture that is also applied on the main chassis model ( Let's say, the exhaust ) and do a " Select by material " option. But when this face selection is active on this red hood object then the chassis face selection hability just goes out like if roles had been reversed and so I can't delselect faces I don't want to retexture on the blue chassis.

Moreover, selecting doors would work with no troubles but I have the same issue with bumpers, windshield or engine hood. So, It is not an issue specificly to the red bonnet object
Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
Can you hover the object (in objects mode)? does it highlight in blue color? if it does, can you switch it to vertices or polygons level (to see red dots on vertices or triangles)? If you do, can you hover individual vertices or polygons with mouse? does hovered vertex/triangle turn blue? does Select\Quadr tool select anything? (it works with right mouse button).
Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
Glad that you point that out, no I just can't !
I could only select in RED by going in the object list and click " Select " alongside with " Enable/Visible " in the right click options.
But hovering the mouse and turning things to blue is only the case for the main chassis and doors only.
Quadr was also uneffective when I tried it once.

Re: Select faces of a non-pricpal model in Zmodeler 1.06
something is wrong with object boundary. I advise to export your scene to some intermediate format and import it back to new scene. this should fix the issue with geometry.
Mind, ZModeler1 is outdated product, there is no much help you can get on any issue.
