Race Driver 3 .col track Files important!

Hello, i would like to edit col.col collision mesh files located in RD3 track files (track.big)

the second page isnt archivized so i don't know if it was ever figured out...

please Oleg, do your best, make an editor or something for that.. after that i might be able to create new track.... maybe

What i found GTA have .col files too but the Editors don't work with RD3.. Looks its different

absolutely. File extension ".col" does not mean anything. The file contents and data layout is important. of cause RD3 uses its own data and layout, so any tool will not handle these files unless tool is designed for RD3.

What about p3d filter? I have for rd3 but i cant open rd2 car models, any solution?

the game is so outdated, I doubt there are enthusiasts to take care of creating tools for it nowadays.

This is an old forum, it was lost when I migrated to phpbb version 3. since then there were several upgrades too and quite a lot of forum posts were lost.

And I don't have backups of data for year 2006, believe me.

However, I remember the "R.E.G. Perfecionist" forum member quite well, may be he could be reachable by some means?

I wanted to edit p3d model and when exporting it it says Missing textures bla bla in ..ds (.fxo files from effects folder) when i ignore it the car in game looks weird tyres interior...

i dont know if theres any instruction... wanna convert some cars from RD:Grid into RD3 but it crashes the game... i tried to replace every part name with that model from rd grid putting part.map into the .big and crashes anyway....

I can't help on this subject, it is very outdated and I don't remember any bit of this game or export-specific requirements.

Ahh, sorry to bother you again

Well i tried to contact REG Perfectionist on FB (Cecil B) but he doesnt reply

Last time i found p3d2z3d tool

and it can convert most of the P3D track files from RD2 to z3d, but not _trk.p3d (track environment), and some less important, then i just open zmodeler and save as p3d then rename to .px (rd3 tracks format)
renaming directly p3d track from rd2 to .px(rd3) will make a crash

We can't do anything about collisions .col but i observe i can use them from rd2 example nurburgring LONG layout (in RD3 exist Nurburgring Short Layout) when i use it i can normally ride, BUT if i use .col from track that totally don't exist in RD3, the car spawns in air.. and i TOTALLY don't understand it

Is there any way you could figure out why i cant convert the _trk .p3d? that would give me at least possiblity to convert Eurospeedway Lausitz Track(a bit different layout) and Nurburgring Track as the .col from rd2 are working correctly on these two

both files in your archive are not matching the file format specs given there. Looks like they are from RD2 and file format is for RD3.

The file extension .p3d in RD2 and RD3 does not mean the layout of data there is compatible, it could be completely different data layout so tools for .p3d files could be unable to handle files properly.

I'm not able to make any changes in ZModeler2 modules. you have what you have already, no changes could be made. if certain game shaders are not supported on import/export - they will not be.

@Oleg - Hey Stranger :) Yes I'm still alive and great to see you are.

Marek eventually caught up with me on FB but like you I can barely remember those days, I know they were much fun and we all had a great time ripping things apart and making mods for communities.

These days things are much different for sure, i know that just watching my kids play these endless moddable games, whereas we used to have to work really hard and grind some brain cells to create, hack n slash our way through file formats haha.

@Oleg, its really great to see your pushing hard with Zmodeller, truly awesome just to write this post to say Hello to you were such support back in the days of R.E.G - these days its all about work & family/paying the bills :). I do hope you and your family are well too.

@Marek, apologies but as per our discussion on FB, I'm unable to offer any more assistance than the archived forum threads you found from the old R.E.G forums, if I find anything in my files I'll be sure to be in touch, Codemasters are/were/still never the best at supporting communities, i doubt much has changed these days either.

Unfortunately, I can not make any changes in ZModeler2 product or its plugins. The RaceDriverP3D plugin in Zmodeler2 can not be updated.

I can probably make this .col import/export in ZModeler3, but I do not see whether this is a good option, considering ZModeler3 is a different product with paid time-constrained licenses only.
